Day 1 of Water Offerings
Today was the first day of 30 where I make offerings to the Waters. I have access to so many spectacular water courses and bodies of water locally to me; where to begin? Should I go up to Aber Falls, or swim in the River Ogwen or hike to still mountain lake or go to the Ocean? Today I started small and walked from my home to the stream that flows just behind the houses and along the Taith Pererin, the pilgrims way. Along the Taith Pererin there is an Oak-Spring where waters emerge from beneath an oak tree. I am not the first to make offerings there, crystals and occasion clootie prayers are all around it.
I moved slowly as I walked and immediately the dew drops caught my eye. You-hoo000 said the Dew and I stopped and paid attention. I saw how individual these dew drops seemed but also remembered they will either flow and pool or evaporate eventually, it seemed a wholesome metaphor for the human life and death cycle.
A robin accompanied me for a quite a time. I sang and made offerings at the well and I walked home slowly.
What was remarkable was the difference this slow and gentle start to the day made to me inner state. I have been in an unshakeable state of calm and inner peace all day, even though for some reason one of my dogs is repeatedly leaving dirty protests inside probably because I have been away. I was just, well, zen.
I was in the recording studio today reading my works for audiobooks. The very pages I was reading today were about Wellsprings of Grief and the Waters. It was uncanny. And after I left the studio after a really deep and earnest few hours of hard work a heron swooped low over my head with a shush and rush of their great wings. My mothers favourite bird who visited me in my dreams after Mum died and the inspiration for the Crane folding rituals.
It just felt like an integral day. Wholesome, wonder filled and gentle.
